Why I became a childminder
It started with my own children
When my first child was born, I knew I wanted to create the kind of nurturing, creative environment I'd always dreamed of. What started as caring for a few families in the neighbourhood quickly grew into a calling. I qualified with a Level 3 CACHE diploma and registered with Ofsted, and haven't looked back since.
“I don't just look after children — I help them discover who they are.”
Learning through play, every single day
I follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework, but in practice that means building dens in the garden, baking bread, painting with leaves, reading stories in the sunshine, and letting curiosity lead. Children learn best when they feel safe and engaged — that's my entire philosophy in a sentence.
Keeping parents in the loop
I use a digital learning journal to share daily photos, observations and developmental notes. Parents tell me it's one of the things they value most — being able to see their child's face at lunchtime, or hear about a milestone the moment it happens.
The setting
My home is purpose-adapted for childminding — a safe, fully risk-assessed space with dedicated play areas, a secure garden, and a reading nook. I am situated close to several parks and woodland areas we visit regularly.
